Audi battery replacement by model

Every Audi takes a specific battery. Compact models such as the A3 and Q3 use a 60 to 72 Ah battery in the engine bay. The A4, A5 and Q5 carry a 70 to 95 Ah AGM under the boot floor. The A6, A7, A8, Q7 and Q8 need a 92 to 110 Ah AGM. All recent models need coding after fitting.

Which battery does your Audi need?

Got start-stop? You need AGM or EFB. A normal battery in there dies fast.

TypeFound inCopes with start-stopHeat toleranceNeeds coding
AGM Absorbent glass mat

Holds charge through restarts, heavy electrics and vibration. Standard on most Audis after 2012.

Found in A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, Q8, e-tron, S and RS
Copes with start-stop Yes, built for it
Heat tolerance Best of the three
Needs coding Yes
EFB Enhanced flooded battery

Toughened flooded battery for lighter start-stop duty. Found in smaller Audis. Can be upgraded to AGM.

Found in Some A1, A3, Q2 and Q3 versions
Copes with start-stop Yes, for lighter loads
Heat tolerance Good
Needs coding Yes
Standard Flooded lead-acid, maintenance-free

Old-style battery. Fine if your Audi has no start-stop — mostly pre-2010 cars. Never for a start-stop car.

Found in Older A3, A4, A6, TT without start-stop
Copes with start-stop No
Heat tolerance Fair
Needs coding On newer cars, yes
48V lithium-ion Mild-hybrid battery

Newer big Audis have a separate 48V pack for the hybrid system. You still have a 12V AGM — that is the one we replace.

Found in A6, A7, A8, Q7, Q8 mild hybrids
Copes with start-stop Part of the system
Heat tolerance Managed by the car

AGM vs EFB for Audi, explained

How it works

No towing. No workshop. Just this:

On site: 25 to 45 minutes

  1. Message us

Send your model, year and location pin on WhatsApp. We confirm the right battery before we drive out.

  2. We drive over

Nearest van heads to you. In Dubai that is usually 20 to 35 minutes. You get the technician's number.

  3. We test, then fit

Battery, alternator and drain test first. Needs just a jump? That is all you pay for. Needs a battery? We fit it and keep your settings.

  4. We code and you pay

New battery coded to your Audi. You see the readings, pay by card, cash or Tabby, we take the old one.

Does an Audi need battery coding after replacement?

Most Audis built from around 2008 do. The car's energy management has to be told a new battery is fitted, with its capacity and type. We do this on site with a diagnostic tool as part of the fitting.

Which battery does my Audi need, AGM or EFB?

If your Audi has start-stop, it needs AGM or EFB, and most larger models need AGM. We check by model, year and the label on the old battery, then fit the same technology or better.

Where is the battery in my Audi?

It depends on the model. A3, Q2 and Q3 carry it in the engine bay. A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and Q5 usually have it under the boot floor. The first Q7 has it under a front seat. Our technician will know before arriving.

Can you come to a basement or tower car park?

Yes. Most of our Dubai jobs are in basements and podium car parks. The technician carries the battery and tools in by hand if the van cannot enter. Tell security a service visit is coming.

Do electric Audis like the e-tron need a 12V battery?

Yes. Every e-tron and plug-in hybrid has a 12V battery that powers the locks, screens and control units. When it fails the car will not switch on even with a full high-voltage battery. We replace those too.
