What to know about the A2 battery

The A2 comes from before energy management, so there is nothing to code. What matters is the right case size and terminal layout, and clean, tight terminals. Classic cars usually sit a lot, so we often recommend an AGM for its tolerance of long parked spells.

Can you still get a battery for an A2?

Yes. Older Audis use standard European case sizes that are still made. Send us a photo of the fitted battery and we will match it.

Does an A2 need battery coding?

No. Cars of this era have no battery monitoring. We fit, check the charging voltage and you are done.

Does an Audi need battery coding after replacement?

Most Audis built from around 2008 do. The car's energy management has to be told a new battery is fitted, with its capacity and type. We do this on site with a diagnostic tool as part of the fitting.

Which battery does my Audi need, AGM or EFB?

If your Audi has start-stop, it needs AGM or EFB, and most larger models need AGM. We check by model, year and the label on the old battery, then fit the same technology or better.

Where is the battery on an Audi A2?

Older Audis mostly carry the battery under the bonnet. A few, including some 100 and V8 versions, have it under the rear seat. No electronics stand between you and the battery on these cars.
