What to know about the Q4 Sportback battery

The Q4 Sportback uses a small 12V battery because it never has to crank an engine. Small also means little reserve. A few weeks parked at the airport with the car checking in to its app can be enough to drain it, and then the car will not wake up.

The Q4 Sportback is fully electric. Everything on this page refers to its 12V battery, the one that wakes the car up. The high-voltage traction battery is a separate system that we do not service.

The Sportback body changes the boot shape and trim, not the battery. Access and fitting time are the same as the standard Q4 Sportback.

Where is the battery on an Audi Q4 Sportback?

Why is my Q4 Sportback dead when the main battery is charged?

Because the 12V battery, not the main pack, wakes the car up. If it is flat the car cannot close the contactors to use the main battery. A 12V replacement fixes it.

How long does a Q4 Sportback 12V battery replacement take?

Around 25 to 30 minutes on site, including the test before and coding after.

Does an Audi need battery coding after replacement?

Most Audis built from around 2008 do. The car's energy management has to be told a new battery is fitted, with its capacity and type. We do this on site with a diagnostic tool as part of the fitting.

Which battery does my Audi need, AGM or EFB?

If your Audi has start-stop, it needs AGM or EFB, and most larger models need AGM. We check by model, year and the label on the old battery, then fit the same technology or better.
