On an Audi specifically
S tronic is a dual-clutch gearbox run by a mechatronic unit, which combines the hydraulic valve body and the control computer. Many jerks, lost gears and gearbox malfunction messages trace to that unit or its fluid, not to the gears themselves. The adaptation values and fault memory should be read before a rebuild is suggested.

Why does my Audi jerk when pulling away?
On an S tronic car this is usually clutch judder or a mechatronic fault, and it is worse in stop-start traffic when the gearbox is hot. A scan of the clutch adaptation values shows which one it is.
Can I drive with a gearbox malfunction warning?
If the message says you can continue, drive gently to a safe place, not across the city. If drive is lost or the car is stuck in one gear, stop and ask for recovery. Driving on can turn a small fault into a rebuild.
Does my S tronic need a fluid change?
Wet-clutch S tronic gearboxes have a scheduled fluid change in the Audi service plan. In Dubai heat and traffic it should not be skipped. Dry-clutch versions have separate gear oil and mechatronic fluid that are checked when faults appear.
Is it the gearbox or the clutch?
Slipping under load and a burning smell point to the clutch. Missing gears, harsh shifts and warning messages point to the mechatronic unit or gearbox. Often the two are linked, which is why the scan comes first.
